Why Wood Pellets Are Increasingly Popular In the UK & Ireland

Wood pellets have quickly become one of the most popular renewable fuels across the UK and Ireland. As one of our best selling products we've definitely noticed a rise in demand. In fact, the UK is now the largest consumer of wood pellets in the world and in July they made up over 9% of the UK's electricity (Ambrose, 2025).

A big part of this increasing popularity comes down to sustainability. Both residential households and businesses appreciate that woods pellets burn efficiently, produce very little ash and have lower emission compared to traditional fossil fuels.

In residential use wood pellets are especially popular because of their efficiency. Efficient burning means less ash to deal with and a more consistent heat source, making them ideal for heating homes. Additionally, as a sustainable heating source wood pellets have a reduced carbon footprint compared to oil and gas systems.

In commercial use organisations are increasingly switching to wood pellets in order to cut costs and improve sustainability. In terms of cost, with large bulk orders business can be able to reduce their heating costs annually. Another benefit for many businesses is lessening their environmental impact which can be a competitive advantage in many industries. With a shift in consumer trends suggesting that consumers are increasingly choosing brands that prioritise sustainable practices, sometimes even in the face of higher prices.

With increasing usage both residentially and commercially it seems like demand for wood pellets will only increase across the UK and Ireland for the foreseeable future.
